Free Stamp (1991) by Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen.

Free Stamp is a large sculpture made of steel and aluminum.

Its creation began in 1982, when the Standard Oil Company of Ohio ordered its creators an artwork to be placed in front of their new skyscraper.

Some time later, the company changed ownership and canceled the project. There were protests in the city and finally, a committee offered different sites to place the work.

They chosed Willard Park, where it is displayed lying, as if it had been thrown. In this position, it has the advantage of completely revealing the word “Free”.
