Banksy, the art prankster, strikes again.

The spray painting on fabric “Girl with Balloon” was auctioned on Friday at Sotheby’s in London, and raised three times the estimate and equaled the record for the artist, 1.04 million pounds (1.4 million dollars – 1.1 million euros).

Then an alarm sounded and a shredder embedded in the frame reduced it to thin strips.

Sotheby’s had highlighted before the sale that the colorful gold frame was “an integral element of the artwork chosen by Banksy himself”.

Some observers of the art market suggest that the value of the work may even be tripled in its current state.
